dc.description.abstract | A performance dissertation featuring twelve pieces commissioned by Mstislav Rostropovich, which were presented at the 70th birthday celebration held in honor of the Swiss conductor and patron of the arts, Paul Sacher. The contributing composers are: Conrad Beck, Luciano Berio, Pierre Boulez, Benjamin Britten, Henri Dutilleu.-x, Wolfgang Fortner, Alberto Ginastera, Cristobal Halffter, Hans Werner Henze, Heinz Bolliger, Klaus Huber, and Witold Lutoslawski. Each contributed a work for solo cello, with the exception of Pierre Boulez, whose Jiessagesquisse is written for seven cellos. The additional works are; Benjamin Britten's Suite for Solo Cello Op. 72, Alberto Ginastera's Sonata Op. 49, and Henri Dutilleux's Concerto for Cello, 'Tout un monde lontain.' | en_US |
