Abstract

To determine the history of a given piece of property during the last quarter of the eighteenth century, look at the map facing this page. Find the city block that maintains the property in question. The number in smaller type, usually in the center of the block, is the parcel number. For example, if you were interested in a piece of property in the block bounded by Church, Duke of Gloucester, and Conduit Streets, the parcel number would be 11. Once the parcel number has been determined, tum to that number in the text, where you will find a xerox copy of a more detailed map covering that parcel. Lines have been drawn indicating the approximate boundaries of the land as it was held in 1783, and in some cases, after 1783.
