dc.description.abstractFounded in 1865 in the traumatic aftermath of the Civil War, the Democratic Advocate chronicled the life and times of the small town of Westminster, MD. Agricultural interested were a prominent feature of the newspaper, but the Democratic Advocate also was noteworthy for publishing the literary effusions, especially poetry, of local residents.en_US
