Infrastructure for Stormwater Flooding Mitigation in Edmonston Maryland

Abstract

This project focuses on ecological design solutions for flooding and water pollution in Edmonston, Maryland. There are three student group reports, each describing a different stormwater solution. The first report proposes permeable interlocking concrete pavement (PICP) to mitigate flash flooding, detailing its design, cost, and effectiveness based on small-scale prototyping. The second investigates the feasibility of French drain systems for stormwater management, outlining a modular design, cost analysis, and retention capabilities for a specific flood-prone street. Finally, the third report analyzes a phytoremediation box designed to reduce salt and nutrient pollutants in urban runoff, discussing its conceptual basis, experimental setup, and the challenges faced during initial testing.
