Abstract

This senior capstone project examines the insider versus outsider perceptions of the Ramapough Mountain Indians, a tribe in New Jersey. Lacking federal recognition, this group is at odds with most of the outside community, namely the state and federal government. This thesis explores these relations from a historical and contemporary standpoint, as well as how the tribe maintains a strong cultural heritage.
