Often neglected, yet an important part of cultural heritage, “medium rare” materials such as popular press books, newspapers, periodicals, and ephemera present unique challenges in rare book and archival collections. Created for mass consumption at a low cost of production, the few surviving representatives present problems for description, preservation, and collection development policies alike.
