Item Using data visualization tools to design a search strategy for a systematic review(2019-06-11) Coalter, Jodi; Tchangalova, Nedelina; Trost, AmyThe aim of this study is to survey various research support models to address the following question: What unique research support practices are being successfully used by STEM academic libraries? The results of our investigation will help inform future programming and services for best practices in STEM libraries serving academic institutions. To answer this question, a comprehensive search of the literature is necessary to capture all relevant studies. The poster will explore the development of key words and phrases used to search databases, grey literature, and STEM libraries' websites. Text mining and data visualization tools are used to identify terms during an initial environmental scan of the literature. Tools may include Voyant, Tableau, Pajek, Gephi, and R. Preliminary results will be shared, including problems encountered and successful data visualization techniques, as well as next steps for completing this project.Item Make Learning Awesome with Kahoot! Bring your phone to the workshop and play! In this hands-on workshop, attendees will learn the basics of designing fun activities using Kahoot!, a free game-based learning tool. Several tips will be shared on how to successfully incorporate Kahoot! quizzes in already established teaching plans.Item Gaming with Kahoot! in one-shot library instruction(2018-06-14) Tchangalova, Nedelina; Houpt, Kirsten; Ritchie, StephanieThis poster will discuss librarians’ experiences to increase student engagement and learning in one-shot library instruction classes. Kahoot!, an open source game-based learning platform, was used to reinforce concepts taught during undergraduate classes and to assess student learning. Feedback from student responses indicate that they valued this exercise.Item Out with the old, in with the new: A reliable workflow in writing a report on diversity and inclusion(2016-06-08) Edwards, Jamie; Epps, Sharon; Horbal, Andrew; Sorrell, Cynthia; Tchangalova, Nedelina; Wheeler, LisaThe Diversity Advisory Committee (DAC) will discuss the dynamics of the process of assessing the diversity health at the University of Maryland Libraries. From designing the survey instrument through analyzing the results to the final writing of the report of diversity and inclusion, the committee members will unveil their challenges and achievements in presenting unbiased conclusions from this assessment project. In completing this project, the committee consulted the university’s wisdom, including (1) the College of Information Studies for creating the survey; (2) the Office of Institutional Research, Planning and Assessment (IRPA), and Division of Information Technology (DIT) for analyzing the results; and (3) the Campus Assessment Working Group (CAWG) model for organizing the content of the final report.
