dc.description.abstract | Some people are born with immunity to HIV/AIDS due to a genetic mutation, which causes misshapen proteins to form on the surface of their white blood cells. The deformed proteins prevent the HIV/AIDS virus from binding to the cells and ultimately infecting them. Using gene therapy, we can manually insert this mutation into cells and prevent them from getting infected by the HIV/AIDs virus. | en_US |
