Abstract

This dataset supports the article “Impact of viscoelastic polymer solution droplets on a granular bed.” It contains the tabulated measurements used to generate the figures, including fluid properties, rheology data, particle-size measurements, crater and spreading measurements, transition-energy fits, selected crater images and topography files, and MATLAB analysis scripts. The source data required by the scripts are included in the data folder.

Notes

Droplets of Newtonian water/glycerol mixtures or viscoelastic PEO solutions were released from controlled heights onto a dry glass-bead granular bed. Side-view high-speed imaging was used to measure drop diameter, impact velocity, spreading, recoil, and imbibition dynamics. Top-view images were used to measure final crater morphology and crater diameter. Selected craters were measured by 3D surface profilometry. Rheological measurements were used to determine viscosity and relaxation time, and ImageJ was used for particle-size analysis. The MATLAB codes in the code folder use the source files in the data folder to reproduce the manuscript figures and carry out the plotting and fitting analyses.
