    BON À RIEN
(2014) Adams, Taylor Reid; Casey, Maud; Creative Writing; Digital Repository at the University of Maryland; University of Maryland (College Park, Md.)
Bon à Rien follows a character who struggles to navigate, and find footing in, a world warped by his own perplexing feelings of guilt. To him, chatter and accusations (from neighbors, tourists, newspapers, even animals and statues) populate an atmosphere in which he is constantly being watched and evaluated, by outside forces. He finds shallow refuge in pontificating against the forces that have wronged him, and defends himself through an irreverent attitude. He longs to find a sense of freedom from social context, vexed by the chaos and noise of his surroundings and memories. As he flees responsibility in situations caused by his own recklessness, his behavior ultimately compounds his position as an outsider, a freak. As these self-inflicted pressures mount, he struggles to reconcile his past (in)actions with the fates of others, and searches for an authentic way to interpret his past life which has already unraveled.
