This paper describes an approach to the integration of a process planning system (ICAPP) to a CAD system. The link is established through the Initial Graphics Exchange Specification (IGES) used to transfer the feature geometric data from the CAD system to the ICAPP system. The ICAPP system can subsequently use this geometric data in generating a detailed process plan for the manufacture of the part as well as a part program in either APT or COMPACT II, thus constituting truly integrated part design and manufacture.en_US
