| Abstract: | Along the quiet waters of the Chesapeake is a long-forgotten beachfront park called Triton Beach. Since the 1950's its buildings have been abandoned, slowly succumbing to the Bay's high tides and persistent coastal vegetation. The tract is nearly four hundred acres and contains valuable wetlands which contribute to the beauty of the Chesapeake. But without funding to repair the shore line, this area is in danger of eroding into the Chesapeake. Through a public-private initiative, a small parcel of this property will be allocated to construct a conference center. The small scale of a conference center facility will allow this project to be developed at a finite level and the building details will be the emphasis of the exercise. The delicate nature of the site demands caution and steps will be taken to preserve the natural beauty of the waterfront as viewed from both the park and the Bay. |
