VOP champions innovative methods and technology – notably online public consultations – that enable the American people to play a role in the policymaking process and provide policymakers with a more accurate understanding of the views of their constituents. The Program for Public Conultation conducts policymaking simulations, which are an online process that puts citizens in the shoes of elected officials by simulating the process they go through in making policy decisions. Each simulation introduces a broader policy topic and then presents a series of modules that address a specific policy option that is currently under consideration in the current discourse. For each module, respondents: 1) receive a short briefing on a policy issue and the option or options for addressing it; 2) evaluate arguments for and against the policy options; and 3) finally, make their recommendation for what their elected officials should do.Overwhelming bipartisan majorities favor prohibiting stock-trading in individual companies by Members of Congress (86%, Republicans 87%, Democrats 88%, independents 81%), as well as the President, Vice President, and Supreme Court Justices (87%, Republicans 87%, Democrats 90%, independents 82%) according to an in-depth survey by the Program for Public Consultation at the University of Maryland’s School of Public Policy.en-USMembers of CongressStock TradesPresidentVice PresidentSupreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS)H.R. 345: TRUST in Congress ActS.3494: Ban COngressional Stock Trading ActH.R. 3003: Bipartisan Restoring Faith in Government ActH.R. 389: PORTFOLIO ActS.693: Eliminating Executive Branch Insider Trading ActS.1171: Ending Trading and Holdings In Congressional StocksH.R.1138: Prohibit Insider Trading ActS. 1908: Judicial Ethics and Anti-Corruption Act of 2023H.R. 3973: Judicial Ethics and Anti-Corruption Act of 2023Survey: Ban on Stock Trading for Members of Congress Favored by Overwhelming Bipartisan MajoritySenators to Propose Ban on U.S. Lawmakers, Executive Branch Members Owning StockArticle
