Storage, processing, and presentation of multimedia data, such as images, video, audio, or multimedia presentations, has become an important area of computer science. The goal of this dissertation is to formalize access methods to multimedia data by developing algebras that operate on PowerPoint presentations, video, and audio as in the case of relational algebra operating on tabular data. This dissertation also proposes ways to create summaries of multimedia data.en_US
