Slides that were presented on 20 August 2024 by David Liu and Rosalyn Fang as part of the 2024 CISESS Summer Internship Presentations held at the Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC) located at 5825 University Research Court, Suite 4001, University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland.
This presentation was shared at the in-person conference of the 2024 CISESS Summer Internship Program on 20 August 2024. The slides were presented by Rosalyn Fang, a student at Montgomery Blair High School, and David Liu, a student at Marriotts Ridge High School, under the mentorship of CISESS scientists Xi Shao, Changyong Cao, Sirish Uprety, Chun-Kai Hsu at the University of Maryland, College Park. In this presentation, the interns reported their measurements and analysis of atmospheric scattering–induced polarization using a ground-based Robotic Hyperspectral Polarization Measurement System (RHPMS), developed through a collaboration between NOAA/STAR scientist and the Remote Sensing Laboratory at ESSIC, University of Maryland. They also analyzed satellite observations from the HARP2 polarimeter and the Ocean Color Instrument (OCI) aboard NASA’s PACE mission. This internship study provides an important foundation for future comparisons between ground-based and satellite observations, contributing to advancements in air quality monitoring and the evaluation of satellite sensor data quality.
