Abstract
Filmed concerts allow flexibility in performance: they do not need to be sequential, and they do not need to be recorded live. Rehearsing and performing as an unconducted ensemble increases ownership and agency, heightens musicianship skills, creates more engaging performances, and grows interpersonal connection between ensemble members. The unconducted vocal ensemble Chanticleer performed and filmed three concerts in their 2020-2021 season. Amateur ensembles can use Chanticleer’s methods of filming, rehearsing, and performing for their own benefit. Included are Chanticleer’s three filmed concerts, accompanying program notes, and suggestions and exercises for use by amateur ensembles.
