The flammability properties of pure Nylon 6 and Nylon with nano-clay of 5 % are examined in this study, TGA/DSC data were obtained with a variety of heating rates. The decomposition rate was found from the analysis of TGA data based on the mass loss fraction. The rate of reaction was described by a first-order Arrhenius equation in terms of the active species and the char fraction. DSC yields the change of enthalpy of material as a function of temperature under the controlled temperature heating. The value of the temperature dependent specific heat capacity and heats of melting and decomposition of the materials were determined. With the kinetic and thermodynamic properties from TGA/DSC, the burning rate of thin polymers under radiant heat was formulated. The model results will be in terms of the derived TGA/DSC kinetic and thermodynamic properties compared to the data from the cone calorimeter experiments.
