Included in the process are the original concept of the designer and how it developed in conjunction with the directors’ needs, and process images including research, renderings, fitting photos, and completed production images. The Wild Party was written by Andrew Lippa, based on the poem by Joseph Moncure March. This production was produced by the University of Maryland School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies, November 4-11, 2016, under the direction of Professor Scot Reese and Mr. Alvin Mayes.Item The Me Nobody Knows: Navigating the Authenticity of Character through Costume Design for the University of Maryland's 2014 Production(2015) Croghan, Robert Antonio; Huang, Helen Q; Theatre; Digital Repository at the University of Maryland; University of Maryland (College Park, Md.)The following thesis navigates the primary artistic concept, design process and execution of Robert Croghan’s costume design for the University of Maryland’s production of The Me Nobody Knows. The Me Nobody Knows opened October 10th, 2014 in the University of Maryland’s Kay Theatre. It was directed by Alvin Mayes and Scot Reese with L. Richmond Sparks as musical director. The Set was designed by April Joy Tritchler, Lighting was designed by Brittany Shemuga, and Projections were designed by Hannah Marsh.Item A Scenic Design for John Caird and Paul Gordon's "Jane Eyre: A Musical Drama"(2006-05-02) Peters, Tanna Marie; Conway, Daniel; Theatre; Digital Repository at the University of Maryland; University of Maryland (College Park, Md.)The purpose of this thesis is to document and analyze the process of the scenic design for John Caird and Paul Gordon's "Jane Eyre: A Musical Drama" as it was produced at the University of Maryland in October of 2005. The role of the scenic designer is to support the director's conceptual approach to a production via the scenic elements in collaboration with the design and production teams. Chapter 1 is an analysis of the script through a discussion of the original author of Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brônte; the adaptation in musical form; and the imagery and symbolism inherent in the text. Chapter 2 details the visual research process and creation of the design in conjunction with the director, lighting designer, and costume designer. Chapter 3 follows the process of the set construction and creation of the design. Chapter 4 provides a critical analysis of the scenic design process and creation in reference to the scenic design. Finally, the appendices provide visual documentation of the design process from research to realization of the final production.Item A COSTUME DESIGN FOR DUKE ELLINGTON'S SOPHISTICATED LADIES(2004-05-12) Chavez, Angela M; Huang, Helen; TheatreThe goal of this thesis is to document the design process and execution of the costume design for Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies, produced at the University of Maryland, College Park. The role of the costume designer is to support the vision of the director through collaboration with the production team. Background information leading to the original production of Sophisticated Ladies is presented. Based on this background, research was conducted to develop a costume design in conjunction with scene, lighting, and sound designs. Various aspects of the costume design execution are discussed leading to the successful realization of this production. An analysis of the design and execution was conducted and is presented along with concluding remarks specific to the costume design. Visual documentation is used to illustrate the various phases of this project and is contained in the appendices.
