This poster explores ways to harvest, analyze, and use electronic usage data of government publications to make collections and service decisions based on an electronic usage study spanning 10 years conducted at a large research university.Item Basic Project Management for Weeding Government Documents Collections(American Library Association, 2016) McDonald, CelinaFor as long as academic libraries have participated in the federal depository library program, there has been an inherent conflict between their academic and depository mandates. While state and public libraries are tasked with serving the greater public, academic libraries have an imperative to meet the specific needs of their institutions. As institutional priorities have evolved and new needs emerged, many academic depositories have come to face pressures of staffing and physical space that lead to the desire to downsize their physical government documents holdings in favor of digital surrogates. The presentation provides a general description of the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP), along with the University of Maryland's role as an FDLP Regional Depository. Additionally, the presenters discuss the variety of changes that have occurred within the Government Information Team from late 2019 through June 2022, ranging from the processing adjustments during the COVID-19 Pandemic, the backlog cataloging project, and staffing adjustments.Item U.S. Government Documents: Vision Plan 2015-2020(2015-10-12) McDonald, CelinaThe U.S. Government Documents Collection supports and enhances University of Maryland faculty and students' learning, teaching, and research needs through research services, information literacy instruction, and access to a comprehensive collection of new and historically significant government publications. The U.S. Government Documents Plan outlines how the Libraries will use traditional and emerging technologies to transform its spaces, collection, and services over a five-year period.
