DRUM How to's: Solutions to Common Problems

DRUM allows you to search or browse the entire repository or to browse or search individual communities and collections within the repository.

To search or browse the entire repository, use the search and browse functions available in the upper left corner of DRUM's home page. Details on how the search and browse functions work are available from DRUM's help page.

To search or browse a collection or a group of collections forming a community, first go to the home page for the collection or community. From the home page, select the community you are interested in. To access a collection, use the link from the community's page. Each community and collection home page has a search box with additional buttons below it to help you browse by author, title, and date

All DRUM deposits have up three time/date stamps included in the descriptive information for each deposit. If something was previously published, an issue date appears in the standard view of the descriptive information (the screen that includes the link to the work at the bottom) indicating the original date of publication. If you use the "Show full item record" link at the bottom of the page, two additional date/time stamps are listed: date accessioned and date available. These are usually identical and indicate when the work was deposited into DRUM.

1. Click the Login link in the left menu.
2. If you are a UM User, use the login using your University ID and password. If not, use the link to register as a New User.
3. Enter your email address.
4. You will receive an email giving you a URL to use to create a password and provide very minimal contact information.
5. Log in.

First, you must log in to DRUM by following the Login link in the left menu. Once you have signed on, the system will automatically assign whatever permissions are necessary based on your UM affiliation or non-affiliation. Click on "Subscriptions" in the left menu. Instructions on how to subscribe to a collection are provided. If you register with DRUM and then subscribe to a collection, you will be notified by email any time a new deposit is made to the collection.If you register with DRUM and then subscribe to a collection, you will be notified by email any time a new deposit is made to the collection.

DRUM will send you an email with your password if you've forgetting it. Click the Login link on the home page and then select the link for "forgotten your password" instead of filling in your email address and password. DRUM will send the password to whatever email address you have on file in the system.

The easiest way to find the permanent URL for any DRUM work is to search or browse by author. When you have selected the entry for your name and then selected the work you want to refer to, view the page providing the link to the deposited file. The permanent URL is given in a gray box at the top of the page.

Permanent URLs are created for all collection and community home pages within DRUM. When you are at a collection or community home page (the page with the search box), the permanent URL is displayed in the gray box at the top of the page.
