This article presents an overview of the requirements of workstations which are used in the design of printed wiring boards (PWBs). Weaknesses in the current usage of workstations in the design process are discussed and a solution is suggested whereby functionally specific clustered workstations are tied to an intelligent working data base to form a workstation environment tailored to the engineering design process.
